Forthcoming (Not Yet Here, But Always Been There)
“ These places of possibility within ourselves are dark, because they are ancient and hidden: they have survived and grown strong through that darkness. Within these deep places, each one of us holds an incredible reserve of creativity and power, of unexamined and unrecorded emotion and feeling. The woman’s place of power within each of us is neither white nor surface: it is dark, it is ancient and it is deep” — (Audre Lorde)
If I Can't Dance's research fellow Devika Chotoe is invited to extend their research in the form of a collaborative performance within patricia kaersenhout’s exhibition ‘The Third Dimension’. The performance summons the fugitive voices from the dark: frequencies that reverberate the unexamined thoughts and unrecorded feelings of queer diasporic children of the dark, kept hidden from the light and from related westernized notions of Enlightenment, dualism, universality and segregation. The intervention is an invitation to dwell in a liminal space where multiple truths coexist, a sonic journey through conversations, narrations, melodies and vibrations in order to rewrite personal/political realities.
